Studio Fun.

A few weeks ago we had some downtime at the studio, so I set up some portrait lighting and did a few shots of myself as well as fellow photographer, Ryan Carlson, and my employer, Steve Jolly. Here's a few of the shots.

Beacons Revisited

Here are some extra shots from the shoot I did with Beacons earlier this year. It's taken forever for me to get these done because of my schedule, but I've had a little down time recently. I'm hoping to start being a little more frequent with my blog posts from now on!

Stephen Albert Joseph Keech

I've been slacking on my portfolio reveal because I've been in England with my fiance and her family. I'm trying to catch up now.

While I was in Nashville, I had the chance to shoot a local musician named Stephen Keech. He's formerly from the band Haste The Day and now is doing some solo work around Nashville.

You can check out his music here.

So here's the image from my portfolio featuring Stephen.

Portfolio #3

Here is another preview for my portfolio.

This shot is for my new band Delta Son. Shooting band promos that I was in turned out to be a difficult task but I am pretty happy with the outcome. My friend Stephen Baker designed the logo and other graphic elements for the image. Portfolio and graduation is just one month away!

I've shot just over half of my portfolio so far. I'm getting pretty excited and have several more shoots lined up in the next few weeks that I'm really stoked about. Here's a sneak peak of some of the stuff I've been working on.

Summer is here and I am working on my graduation portfolio. I probably will be periodically updating as I am shooting. Here's an extra from a shoot with my fiance, Billie.

Last Promo Ever.

This was the last promo I shot for my time at RCC. It's just portfolio from here on.
I was going to shoot something entirely different, but a model canceled and I couldn't find a replacement. I had to come up with this idea, buy the product, and shoot it in just a couple hours.

Thanks to my mirror holding, "go grab that", and water rippling assistants Daniel and Walker!

Scope

So I am currently working on a Scope mouthwash commercial for my Advertising Photography class at RCC. I've dubbed the campaign "Rock Fresh" and I will be releasing the video soon. I wanted to have a magazine ad to tie into the commercial so I got one of my instructors, John Rash, to do some swishing for me. I shot both John and the Scope bottle in the studio. I made some designs to make it seem like a real ad. Here was my final image.

Beacons

Earlier this week I shot my good friend, Andrew, and his band Beacons. I also made new friends in the other members of the band. Beacons is a Spirt-Filled Hardcore band from Burlington, North Carolina. This is just one of the shots and there will be more to come later.

I created a new logo for the band for this promo which is featured on the drum head in the photo. A larger version can be seen below the image.

You can stalk Beacons here: http://www.facebook.com/BEACONSNC

Dunk.

So if you remember the basketball test shots I did a couple weeks ago, now you get to see what I was working on.

This is meant to be a lifestyle-esque sports ad. My friend Phillip dunked the ball about 50 times in the dark for me to get this shot so let's commend him! Phillip was repping some Nike Dunks gear so I decided to drop some Nike logos in to give it more of an ad feel.

Endurance Magazine

My photo of Joe Sauerbrey I took last semester ended up in an article in Endurance Magazine about Joe's last race!

The original post with the photo can be seen here.

Here's the tearsheet:

The tear is from the online copy so the resolution isn't great.

Joint Project Preview.

I currently am working on a joint project with RCC graphic design student Anna Porthoff. The assignment is to make an advertising campaign will real world applications (posters, commercials, products, catalogs, ads). Though the project won't be unveiled for another few weeks I chose to post a tight crop of one of the photos from the shoot for the campaign.

Our company Urban365 is a clothing store for women with a vintage/urban twist. I really stepped out of my comfort zone for this shoot by shooting women's fashion (which I have never really done before) and going with completely natural light. The light was great and I didn't miss my strobes a bit. Miss Cali Lowdermilk was a great model, and I am really excited about how this campaign will turn out.

Here's the sneak peak.

A Day in the Work Life and UNCG Interview

Julie Henderson works at Design Archives in Greensboro, NC

Walker Anderson and I shot this with a Canon 5D Mk II and a Canon t2i. Audio recorded with a Rode Mic on a hotshoe.  We had a Canon 50mm f/1.4 on both cameras.

This was my edit of the interview. Put together in Final Cut Pro.

This is an interview with a couple students at UNCG about the school's budget cuts.
Thanks to Aaron and Charlie for their time.

Hoops.

So I decided to play around with some sports shooting on a whim with my good friend Phillip this weekend. I used a single Alien Bee powered by a vagabond and decided to just wing it. These are far from perfect but I figured I would post them for fun.

Jason Tuggle Band

Somehow I managed to not post this last semester. I did a multimedia piece on the Jason Tuggle Band back in the summer (link). Last semester for my Photographic Illustration class I did a photo shoot with the band. Here was my favorite image from the shoot.

Carnival Cruises.

I recently went on a Carnival Cruise with my beautiful girlfriend, Billie, and her family. Being as beautiful as she is, I took a lot of pictures of Billie naturally. I snapped this shot while she was getting ready to go out one day and I just really liked it. I wanted to play around with making advertisements so I made a fake carnival ad to showcase the cabins. I know it doesn't show much of the cabin, but I feel like it gives you the feel that you're in one. Either way I really like the photo and had fun playing around with this. Here is the image.

Silhouette Ships.

I recently began a music project with my lovely girlfriend, Billie. We've been in a long distance relationship out entire college careers so obviously the web played a big part in this. We wrote songs mostly over Skype with demos in GarageBand or Pro Tools (she has Pro Tools because she's fancier than me). When I visited over my winter break we played a show in Florida. So we had a somewhat presentable webpage for the band, I decided to take some band promos of us. The final image is below.
